For Filmmakers
Attention: MAAFF 2027!
Slated to take place in Minnesota’s Twin Cities area, MAAFF is proud to serve as a cultural hub and work especially with the upper Midwest—Minnesota, Wisconsin, and North and South Dakota—as well as the rest of the U.S. and beyond. MAAFF will be the first major and premier festival of its kind in Minnesota, connecting Asian Pacific and Asian-Pacific diasporic filmmakers and media creatives and the film communities, to which they belong.
Our vision is to highlight the breadth and range of Asian Pacific and Asian-Pacific American cinema, while creating a space where audiences, artists, and communities can engage in meaningful dialogue and come together over their love of the moving image created by and for Asian Pacific and Asian-Pacific American storytellers.
While global in scope, bringing in talent from across the country and around the world, MAAFF also prioritizes local filmmakers, especially honoring the creativity and resilience of Midwestern Asian American film communities. True to its scrappy and grassroots beginnings, the festival will celebrate works of all scales, from independent projects crafted with minimal resources to larger productions with studio backing, including works from continental Asia and Oceania.
At its core, MAAFF is committed to welcoming and providing a platform for Asian-Pacific filmmakers of any experience level to share their vision. By showcasing a wide range of films—across cultures, genres, lengths, and budgets—MAAFF seeks to foster a dynamic, inclusive, and forward-looking space for Asian-Pacific cinema and storytelling in the 21st century.
